PROCESSING, ROASTING AND SENSORY LEVEL 1 

Typically there is a level 1 class for processing, roasting and sensory. Each one of these classes offer different and important skills in your coffee expertise. However, on April 26 - May 1 we are offering these classes together as a bundle! Over 6 days you will walk away with techniques for processing, roasting and sensory. Below is what you can expect to learn from this bundle :

PROCESSING LEVEL 1 

  • Overview of basic processing methods. 

  • Start and monitor samples of each simple method. 

  • Cupping and discussion of processing methods.

  • Discussion on drying best practices and effect on processing. 

  • Cupping and discussion of further processing methods. 

  • Discussion of storage best practices. 

  • Continued monitoring of processing methods.

ROASTING LEVEL 1

  • Physical inspection of green beans

  • basic sample roasting practices

  • Basic Chemistry of coffee roasting and basic cupping skills for master roasters (identifying main sensory attributes of coffee).

  • Consistent industrial roasting at different degrees of roast using a roast log.

  • Cupping and discussion of results.

SENSORY LEVEL 1 

- Strong theory and systematic practice (useful to pass the Q certification course for coffee buyers, roasters, and baristas). 

  • Required course for all other courses. Certification is provided.

  • Specialty coffee and sensory evaluation of quality.

  • General physical inspection, roasting, brewing

  • Basic theory of aroma perception.

  • Practice with aroma vials and descriptors.

  • Identification of basic tastes and calibration on intensity and quality (modulation).

  • Introduction and informal exercises of affective, discriminative, and descriptive cupping of the same coffees.

  • Cupping tutoring. Learning the SCAA cupping protocols and format.

  • Cupping different origins and basic processing methods.

Price: Each class is 2 days and is offered individually at $499 or offered as a three class bundle for $999
